The Program
YDA's Adult Competitive Dance Program is designed for dancers aged 20 and over who want to continue their passion for dance in a supportive, goal-oriented environment. Whether you are returning to dance or looking to challenge yourself at a competitive level, this program offers the opportunity to train, perform, and grow alongside a team that shares your commitment and love for dance.
More than just a dance class, this program promotes both physical and mental well-being. Dance is an enjoyable and effective way to build strength, flexibility, endurance, and confidence, while learning choreography enhances memory, focus, and coordination. As part of a dedicated team, you'll form meaningful friendships, reduce stress, celebrate achievements together, and experience the excitement of working toward shared performance and competition goals.
The Adult Competitive Program is developed each season based on participant interest and enrolment in each dance style. Depending on the number of dancers interested, participants may have the opportunity to compete as a soloist, duet, trio, or group.
Regular attendance is essential, as classes focus on developing the technique, skills, and choreography needed for performances and competitions. Dancers can choose from a variety of styles, including Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and Tap. Dancers also have the opportunity to participate our Nutcracker performance.
To further support our dancers, we also offer optional Stretch & Strengthen classes designed to improve core strength, flexibility, and overall conditioning. While these classes are not mandatory, they are highly recommended, particularly for adults who are not participating in other forms of regular physical activity.
TEAM COMMITMENT AND EXPECTATIONS
- Adults must enroll in an adult dance class at any of our locations. Additional classes will be set- up for the interested adults to learn the choreography that they will be taking into competitions in the Spring of each season.
- A strong commitment is expected from dancers from September 2026 to June 2027
- All competitive dancers will attend 3 dance competitions within the GTA area.
- All Teams will participate in our Competitive Team Showcase in late February and our recitals in June.
- Attendance is mandatory for competitions, shows, extra rehearsals and regular classes
- When needed, extra rehearsals will take place on weekends with plenty of advance notice
TEAM COSTS
- Annual tuition is a set amount based on the number of disciplines/classes you want to participate in. Payment may be paid in full or through our payment plan option which is scheduled to be paid on the 1st of each month.
- Costume (based on your dance style and choreographer's vision, most costumes will be within the $150.00 – $300.00 range.
- Choreography Fee – This fee covers all lessons taught for adult dancers to learn their dance. Solos, duets and trios are set up as private lessons and the number of lessons is determined by the teacher and dancer(s) as everyone learns at a different pace. Once you have learned the choreography, there will be a times arranged each week around your class time to run the number with the instructor.
- Group numbers may be taught within the class time depending on how many students in the class want to compete. Alternately, we will set up a time after your technique class to teach you the group number. In this event we would charge all dancers a small choreography fee for the additional time needed to learn the choreography.
- Team Jacket (to be worn at all competitions)
- Any accessories required for the costume (shoes, tights, make-up, etc.)
- Competitive Entry Fees (per person/per competition)
HOW TO REGISTER
Registration is open anytime between June and September of each season. To register for an interview and brief audition please complete the form in the link. We will contact you with class options and to discuss the commitment required for this season in more detail.
